Stafford’s town centre churches St Mary’s and St Chad’s are giving a special welcome to visitors on Saturday September 14 as part of the national Heritage Open Days scheme. Activities including climbing the bell tower and ringing the bells will be available at St Mary’s.
The programme at St Mary’s starts at 11am with the latest in the international ‘Illuminate’ series of concerts featuring works by female composers, performed by the London-based Ethel Smyth Trio. The church will be open to general visitors from noon to 3.30pm, with a variety of arts and craft activities for all ages, including brass rubbing.
The bell tower will be open from 12pm to 3pm, with demonstrations of bell ringing and a display of historic documents dating back to the 1750s.
