Sunday 8.00am Holy Communion A simple quiet Holy Communion service celebrated according to the form and the poetry of the Book of Common Prayer printed out in easy to follow service books. This service is celebrated amidst the beauty of the chancel of St Mary’s church at the High Altar. The service attracts a small but welcoming and friendly congregation of around twenty people. There are no hymns or music as the emphasis is upon stillness and quiet. A sermon or reflection is usually given. This service usually lasts about 30 minutes.
Sunday 9.30. Parish Eucharist This is the main celebration of the day with usually eighty to a hundred people of all ages present. There is a crèche for younger children and the church is welcoming to families with children. There is a full choir and the service is sung to a good and accessible setting and wide variety of both traditional and modern hymns and worship songs are sung usually accompanied by the organ. St Mary’s has a good musical tradition. The choir sing a motet during communion. The service is both friendly and dignified with servers present and vestments worn by the clergy and follows the modern language form of Common Worship which is easily accessible from specially printed easy to follow service books. Refreshments and fellowship are offered in the South Transept after the service visitors will be made very welcome. This service usually lasts about 75 minutes.
Sunday 6:30pm Sung Evensong Though not usually well-attended this beautiful service follows the order of the Book of Common Prayer and celebrates the prose of this rite. A Psalm and the Evening Canticles are sung and the service has three hymns. A sermon is preached. This service usually lasts about 45 minutes. |
