This elevated shot illustrates the size of the chancel in relation to the nave; it is in fact bigger.

The chancel was the church of the College of Canons while the nave served as the parish church of Stafford.

The college expired at the Dissolution. A dividing screen across the east side of the tower remained until the nineteenth century.
